From a family foundation to leadership in exceptional transport, SAE stands out for its engineering vision and innovation. Now it looks to the future with new logistics hubs and international projects

From a family-run business born in the 1960s to a national leader in transport, SAE today represents an example of evolution and strategic vision. With strong specialization in the wind energy sector and a forward-looking approach to future logistics, the company combines engineering, innovation, and operational expertise to tackle the most complex challenges in large-scale transportation. In the words of Commercial Director Angelo Quarato, the story of a growth journey that always looks ahead.

How was SAE born and how has it evolved in today’s society?
«Our company is a family business, founded by my Grandfather in the early 1960s. It was officially established in 1991 but became operational in 1992. Over the years, it has specialized in both standard and exceptional transport. We were among the first to handle the transport of wind turbine components, and in the past twenty years, this has made us national leaders. We have developed various skills and acquired top-level equipment that allows us to meet every client’s needs».

What is required, in terms of logistics and preparation, for such transport?
«First and foremost, a feasibility study is necessary. In fact, we can say that SAE was born as a transport company but has evolved into a transport engineering firm. Internally, we have the expertise of an engineering office that verifies transport feasibility and identifies the best route for our client, pointing out the necessary interventions. To ensure a successful outcome, everything must be analyzed down to the smallest detail from the start».

What has been your most challenging project to date?
«We took part in a project that was confidential at first, which led a multinational company to invest in the Italian territory, specifically in Puglia. We were – and still are – the only company to carry out weekly transports of 115-meter-long wind blades. We identified the best route from the factory within the industrial area of Taranto to the destination area, which made us the only company capable of performing such a transport. This required close collaboration from the beginning with a German partner – manufacturer of semi-trailers – and the multinational company. It was a team effort: we win together».

And for the future, what are your prospects?
«There are two major challenges ahead of us. The first is diversification: starting in the second half of 2026, we will open a logistics hub where, in addition to transport, we will also handle cold chain logistics – everything concerning perishable goods, frozen foods, and so on. We have a project for cold storage rooms with a fully automated and technological system to store goods in the best possible way.
The second challenge concerns expansion: in 2023, we acquired 120,000 sqm of land in the Taranto Industrial Area very close to the Port, where we are positioning ourselves as a significant hub for the next offshore projects that will take place in Puglia and elsewhere».

So you are working on expansion.
«Yes. Between 2019 and 2021, we launched two projects in Norway and Serbia. In the near future, we will reach Albania, which for us is a gateway to the entire Balkan area».

S.A.E. s.r.l. is thus a point of reference in the exceptional transport sector in Italy and Europe. The headquarters, situated in the Taranto industrial area, houses a continuously expanding fleet comprising highly specialized vehicles for the transportation of significant wind and industrial components. With more than thirty years of experience, the company tackles every logistical challenge with determination and innovation, delivering services that prioritize precision, efficiency, and sustainability for its clients.
